Reach Out is a collaborative project designed to create a safe, inclusive and creative space to bring people together and ultimately challenge stigma associated with speaking about mental health. We want to invite people to tell their stories and open up a wider discussion around mental health, the importance of sharing those experiences, and promote the services available across Scotland, providing help and support.
The Reach Out Team
We are Darren and Denitsa, a creative duo based in Edinburgh. We first joined forces in 2016 with the mission to make a difference through creative ventures and collaboration.
Because we believe it matters.
Darren is a third sector senior support worker with a wealth of experience supporting adults with autism, learning disabilities, and mental health issues. A music graduate of Edinburgh Napier University and creator of ‘Daut’, an art installation that transforms Braille into music, his latest venture ‘Reach Out’ combines his creative background and years of experience providing care and support, with Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
Denitsa is a Bulgarian-born photographic artist and photography graduate of Edinburgh Napier University. Her work often deals with topics of cultural and political significance, such as identity and the body, and has been showcased in a number of places, from the pages of boom saloon magazine to the walls of DECK Gallery in Singapore.
